Log Furniture Building Books

Log, Twig and Rustic Furniture and Railing Building
has become a popular sideline for many people who desire to build their own, as well as a viable business for many who supply furniture stores, lodges, and do internet sales. You'll find both how-to and project books included here. To locate many of the tools you may need for building your own, please refer to our specialty tool area.

Chain Saw Carving is also increasing in popularity. To locate chainsaw carving bars and specialty chain refer to our carving bar list.

Note: Chain saw carving can be dangerous. You're often using the saw in a manner it was not designed for. Carving bars can help reduce "kickback", however, most carving chain is sold without the special consumer "guard links" to facilitate better precision carving. As with any chainsaw activity please wear proper safety gear. The ultimate responsibility for proper tool use and overall safety is yours. Proper attention to safety and tools will lead to an enjoyable hobby/profession in chain saw carving.

reprint of the 1938 National Park Service
CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps), Albert Good

This is 3 books reprinted as one.
Details and chronicles:

  • Lodges
  • Out buildings
  • Bridges
  • Furniture
  • Sign boards
  • and many more of the National Parks' structures of that era.

Structures  were heavy to log and stone.
Lots of pictures, sketches, plans.
Log builders, designers, architects and contractors will find this a great book.
The 3 volumes are bound as one for a 600 page behemoth
This is truly a one of a kind book.

Includes lots of basic floor plans for many of the lodges, residences, cabins and outbuildings that you'll find in our National Forests.

The difference between the Hardbound and the Softbound are primarily different publishers of the same book. We've heard the photo quality in the softbound is slightly reduced (we didn't have a Hardbound available at the time this was written), however the sketches and text are plenty good...remember the photos were taken in the 30's so all black and white.
